Heather and I borrowed the first season of Lost on DVD and we just watched the first couple of episodes today. I remember when this show first came out, and for some reason, it just didn’t catch my fancy. Maybe I just had too many things going on at the time. Anyway, we sat down and watched several episodes in a row, and two things have become apparent to me:
First, Lost is a really good show. I can’t help but think of it as a cross between Cast Away and Survivor. I’m still waiting for the survivors to give themselves cool-sounding tribal names. Although I suppose they can’t exactly vote each other off of the island.
Second, I’m realizing that the best way for me to watch any kind of network television series that contains any kind of suspense is to just wait for the series to end and then watch the whole thing at once on DVD. You see, I hate surprises. Sure, that may make me a party pooper, but I just have no desire to be surprised by things. I don’t mind hearing spoilers ot books and movies, and I don’t like it when I have t wait a week for a resolution to a suspenseful ending. This is why I typically only enjoy light-hearted television shows, because while they usually have an ongoing story, they tend to wrap up each episode nicely. More dramatic shows, like Lost and, oh, I dunno… Battlestar Gallactica have this mean tendency to leave one at the edge of one’s proverbial seat. If I were to try and watch Lost during the regular season, with one week intervals between new espisodes, I’d go completely crazy.
You *are* a party pooper!
