I was in the U.S. Army from August, 1989 until August, 1995. I served as a 67R AH-64 Attack Helicopter Repairer. Nice, technical sounding job, huh? Basically I was a helicopter mechanic. Here’s a list of places I served:
- B Company, 4th Battalion, 104th Infantry Regiment, 104th Training Division, Ft. Lewis, WA (Basic Training)
- B Company, 1st Battalion, 222nd Aviation Regiment, 8th Training Brigade, Ft. Eustis, VA (Advanced Individual Training)
- C Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 2nd Armored Division, Ft. Hood, TX
- During Operations Desert Shield/Storm, 1st Bn., 3rd Avn. was attached to the 1st Cavalry Division
- In August, 1991, the battalion was deactivated and reformed as the 2nd Bn., 101st Avn. Reg.
- C Company, 2nd Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, Ft. Campbell, KY
I left the Army as a Sergeant (E-5), and I managed to get a few awards here and there. Here’s a nice pretty list of them that I like to look at from time to time so I can feel good about myself:
- Army Commendation Medal (two awards)
- Army Achievement Medal (four awards)
- Good Conduct Medal (two awards)
- National Defense Service Medal
- Southwest Asia Service Ribbon with three campaign stars
- Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon
- Army Service Ribbon
- Kuwait Liberation Medal (awarded by the Government of Saudi Arabia)
- Aircraft Crewman Badge
- Air Assault Badge
- Driver Badge (Wheeled)
- Expert Marksmanship Badge (Rifle, Machine Gun)
Here’s a picture of me from sometime in January 1990, near al Qaisumah, Saudi Arabia:
